Antarctic Adventurers We are the only group in the world to specialise in the Historic Period of Polar Exploration! We depict a sledging party of 1900 to 1915 complete not only with our reproduction Nansen sledge but all the clothing, tents and other equipment that would have been loaded onto it for Antarctic exploration of the period: We have recreated a Nansen cooker, Scott tent and reproduction sledging rations and wear accurate replica Antarctic coveralls. As an additional display we show both still and cine historic cameras like those used by photographers such as Frank Hurley and Herbert Ponting. In 2009 the Antarctic Adventurers will be attending a number of events including a repeat appearance at the English Heritage Festival of History at Kelmarsh Hall and the Annual Shackleton Autumn School at Athy in County Kildare |
| Home Front Heroes A visit provides a full day of talks and activities for Key Stage 2 pupils to bring the Second World War Home Front to life - without all the difficulties attendant on arranging an external visit... A typical day might consist of four sessions which aim to cover the broad sweep of the National Curriculum Key Stage 2 History syllabus: |

| Preparing for War on the Home Front: Air raid precautions, gas masks & air raid shelters. Children can tackle incendiary bombs with a stirrup pump, shelter from the Blitz, handle gas masks and sound the all clear siren. Making the Best of It: A look at rationing, Dig for Victory, Make Do & Mend, salvage and the black market - as well as changing roles in wartime as men were drafted into the services. Leaving Home: A chance for your children to pretend they are joining the great evacuation: we provide suitable dressing up clothes, suitcases and toys for the great adventure. Rounding it all off: Children are encouraged to bring a pillowcase containing three favourite items to remind them of home which we can then discuss and explore with them. Lastly, we present the children with Junior Fire Guard Certificates for them to take home as a souvenir of the day. |
