Letter sent to both CRB and Home Office Dated 17 December 2007
Dear Sir or Madam,
We are a company principally engaged in compiling and promoting a professional register for historical interpreters, performers, demonstrators and craftspeople working in the heritage and education industries.
Many of our accreditees work with children and vulnerable adults and therefore require CRB checking.
As a professional body we have been asked many times by them for clarification; we are currently giving the following advice:
- a) If a CRB check is required the onus is on the employer to ensure that this check is done;
- b) that responsibility for payment for such CRB checking rests with the employer;
- c) that as many employers do not accept CRB checks applied for by third parties such as umbrella organisations and agencies we advise you to ensure the steps detailed in a) and b) above are undertaken by the employer;
- d) that this may involve you having to have many CRB checks done throughout your working year;
- e) that we do not at present consider it a valid use of your subscription fees to apply to become an umbrella agency.
I look forward to hearing from you by return.
Yours faithfully,
Gerry Burrows
Chairman
