The 11th Century is a time by which falconry had
become firmly established in England. The Anglo Saxon Kings started the
tradition of English monarchs hunting with birds, the monk Boniface being
instrumental to this hereditary practice. The last Saxon king was said only to
put down his hawk to eat….and this royal passion for hunting with birds was
further promoted by William the Conqueror and his Norman heirs.
