Using authentic tools, forge and bellows I can demonstrate the necessary skills that a Blacksmith needed to provide a wide variety of domestic items and accoutrements as required in all aspects of daily life.
The 17th Century was a turbulant time, especialy during the period of the English civil war. A Blacksmith was called upon to use his many skills not only in maintaining every day life but also the demands of the military. Particularly as many private armies and militia groups were formed at this time. Warefare had changed and firearms were being used allong side more traditional weapons such as pikes. In addition to my demonstration of hand forging I can also cast musket balls and small cannon shot on site using authentic methods.
Further
aspects of everyday living particularly those of the housewife can be brought to life by my partner Gillie Jones. Using a
variety of herbs and native plants, along with some of the more
expensive imported spices (as available within the period) she can
create a number of simple remedies and household goods such as soap and
cleaning materials as well as some luxury items, all of which would
have been produced in the home.
