Piva specialises in giving  lively performances of popular dance music and ballads of the Tudor and Elizabethan periods. We play a wide range of historically accurate instruments such as hurdy gurdies, shawms, bagpipes, recorders, rauschpfeifen, violin and percussion.

We pride ourselves on our research. By using music, song, original anecdotes and costume, the performances are placed within the everyday historical context of the
late 16 th century and we aim to bring the music to life for a 21st century audience.

We provide varied and entertaining programmes for any type of event. Performing
with between 3 and 6 players, we can also tailor the size of the group to suit the budget. We regularly play in historic houses and properties, as well as for historical shows, street events and specialist early music festivals. We have our own authentic period tent for outdoor events.

Piva is unique in that 5 of its members are instrument makers specialising in historical instruments. Calling on this background, we have developed a fascinating show called "Meet the Music Makers". We take visitors back in time to the workshop of a 16th century instrument maker and show how woodwind instruments were made and played in Tudor times.
