The Victorian era was a hugely innovative time. The Industrial age had arrived and many items were now mass produced in factories. The Blacksmith was still important particularly when called upon to repair many of the new fangled machines so beloved by the Victorians towards the end of the period many blacksmiths were also becoming skilled mechanics and with the arrival of the first horseless carriages the smithy often became the local garage.
Using authentic tools, forge and bellows I can demonstrate the many aspects of Blacksmithing relevent to daily life in this period
Further
aspects of everyday living particularly those of the housewife can be brought to life by my partner Gillie Jones. Using a
variety of herbs and native plants, along with some of the more
expensive imported spices she can
create a number of simple remedies and household goods and
cleaning materials as well as some luxury items and cosmetics, all of which could
have been produced in the home.
