As a professional historical interpreter, I offer demonstrations on traditional period crafts and needlework, often being able to use actual tools of the period. These are made either as a display or as participatory and educational workshops for both children and adults. A variety of costume and practical uses of these techniques are also shown.
Victorian Parlour Crafts
The industrial revolution brought a greater amount of leisure time to the newly wealthy middle-class women of the Victorian period, many of which were able to enjoy the luxury of servants to do their household tasks. The newly established lady of the house, now found that she had time on her hands and so parlour crafts such as needlework, decorative paperwork, embroidery, shellwork and flowercrafts became a fashionable past time in the Victorian house.
Lectures and displays as a Victorian lady showing a wide range of these crafts, their tools, many of which are original pieces and their uses.
